MTN Commits Over N2Billion To Y'ello Hope Initiative

In the past weeks, corporations and individuals alike have rallied round the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as the nation battles to curb the spread of the global Coronavirus pandemic. The NCDC is coordinating its tracking and identification process through the Surveillance, Outbreak Response Management and Analysis (SORMAs) tool as well as the employment of precautionary measures.

The Central Bank of Nigeria in collaboration with several private sector organisations formed a coalition against COVID-19 (CACOVID) to raise funds required to fight the pandemic. Contributions to the fund from both organisations and and high net worth individuals (HNIs) as at April 1, 2020 CACOVID stood at over N15 billion.

In a similar move, MTN Nigeria unveiled Y'ello Hope Package and announced over N2 billion worth of support to various government and health agencies.

According to an official media statement from the company, the first phase of the company's investments will address the following efforts;

  • Over N500 million worth of airtime, data and analytics, through the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF) in support to State governments to facilitate communications during travel restrictions.

  • Connecting customers with essential health information: Free data access to be used to access websites with validated information on COVID.

As the situation evolves, we are fully committed to deepening and extending these commitments in order to provide all the support we can to the government, and to our people.
