Funke Akindele, JJC Skillz arraigned in Ogba for hosting birthday party

Nollywood Actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, were on Monday, arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos for hosting a large gathering of over 20 persons in defiance to the social distancing directives of the Lagos State Government.

The Lagos State Government had banned large gatherings in the state as part of measures to flatten the COVID-19 curve, while the Federal Government had also banned movements in the state.

The couple was seen in viral videos hosting a birthday party in their home at the weekend. The party had in attendance singer Naira Marley and other guests believed to be more than 20. This sparked social media outrage and also led to their arrest on Sunday evening.

ChannelsTV reports that during their arraignment at the Samuel Ilori Courthouse of the Ogba Magistrate Court, the couple pleaded guilty to a one-count charge. The charge against them is made pursuant to the Regulation 8 (1a &b) and S 17(1) of the State's Infectious Disease Regulation 2020.

According to the regulation, anyone found guilty is liable to one-month imprisonment or N100,000.

The Attorney-General of Lagos, Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN) led the Prosecution for the State.

Journalists were, however, not allowed into the courtroom because the police authorities cited the need to maintain social distancing.
